It started with five activists who gave up solid food and plopped themselves down in front of Mission Station to protest police shootings, racist text message scandals, and the Police Chief in general. The hunger strike group has grown to some nine people, give or take, and they're on day eight of their strike with no end in sight.
Meanwhile, things are heating up – not in a good way, at three different fires in the last week and a half or so. That's also partially the topic of discussion at a Fire Commission meeting held last night in the Mission to discuss, well, fires. Neighbors are frustrated with the lack of code enforcement, since negligence seems to be a major cause of these fires.
