CH005: Parental Advisory—Explicit Content

The Parents Music Resource Center was the "brains" behind the now-familiar Parental Advisory stickers on albums, indicating controversial content. It was supposed to be a warning for parents, but in the end turned out to be a great advertisement for kids looking for the kind of music that would best freak out their parents. In 1985 the PMRC published the Filthy Fifteen, a list of songs they considered the most egregious offenders. In 2019, some of the choices seem almost comical, but here's an entire episode devoted to Tipper & Al Gore, the PMRC, and the Filthy Fifteen (plus some additional tunes they undoubtably would have hated just as much, if not more).

For more on the Filthy Fifteen, check out this excellent video from Earworm.
