Some years ago, Tom Coates started a Twitter account called “Magical iPod” as an experiment in sharing musical recommendations and insights, found in the constraint of his pocketed playlists. That evolved into @lovedsongs, an account that shares a regular stream of ★★★★★ tracks from his decades-old iTunes library. The result is an eclectic, unpredictable series of songs pulled out of time and place — some long forgotten, some discombobulated from the place or circumstances from which they first earned that top rating. It's one slice into how we discover and rediscover music, and Tom shares just a few selections from the 400 songs Tweeted so far.
Our record of the week comes from Quantic — New York-based British producer, Will Holland. His new record Atlantic Oscillations is out now, mixing electronic, soul and jazz sensibilities.
