This is part 2 of Roots of Reggaeton. In the last episode we talked about the Black Panamanian roots of reggaeton, but so often forgotten is the Black women who shaped reggaeton. So I wanted to dedicate an episode to the Black woman who pioneered Reggaeton and are the blueprint for most of the music we hear today. I also welcome special guest DJ Taboo, who is a recent Spellman graduate, Miss Magazine writer, Her DJ Club community member, and so much more - who wrote her senior thesis titled: Stolen Spaces of Pop Culture: Afro-Latina Visual Feminist Narratives Reshaping Understandings of Mysogynoir. She offers incredible insight into the background of La Sista who was a reggaeton pioneer in the early 2000's to Tokischa, one of the biggest mainstream artist today.
