Now more than ever, we need to show up for the transgender and gender variant community. While BFF.fm is always committed to supporting LGBTQ+ voices, this week brings a special opportunity to support and celebrate trans artists: the San Francisco Transgender Film Festival!

Founded in 1997 by Christopher Lee and Alex Austin, the SFTFF is the world’s longest-running transgender film festival and serves authentic media that challenges mainstream narratives. Now offering in-person and online screenings, the Festival has continually grown in response to overwhelming demand from audiences in the Bay Area and around the world. This year’s SFTFF will be held from November 13 - 15th at the Roxie and online from November 16 - 23rd.

Festival Artistic Director and country/punk musician Shawna Virago(she/her) joined BFF.fm’s own WTFIFL with DJ Shorty Rock to talk all things SFTFF, creating in the gray space between twang and punk, and the importance of showing up for our community in challenging times. Listen to their full convo and some incredible music by trans, genderqueer, and non-binary artists in the BFF.fm archives!

Buy tickets and support the San Francisco Transgender Film Festival here. Like many organizations supporting transgender and gender variant people, the SFTFF has had funding cut and grants revoked: showing up for them is more important than ever. Enjoy some incredible independent films and celebrate trans artists!
