Welcome to Bandcamp Friday! Until midnight tonight, 100% of any money spent on Bandcamp will go directly to the artist, making today the perfect day to support your favorite Bay Area bands.

Why buy music in the streaming era? Because Spotify is estimated to pay $0.003 - $0.005 cents per stream, depending on the artist. Even if you buy an album for $1, you’re paying the artist the equivalent of 333.3 song plays. That impact matters, especially for independent artists.

To celebrate, the BFF.fm community is sharing their hidden gems, ride-or-die faves, and local legends that you can support today. Discover something new, revisit an old favorite, and support the Bay Area music scene!

Mox, Natasha Sandworms, and Christina's Trip - Lucky Three (Merced, San Jose, Oakland, alternative)

Leave it to the Bay Area’s Cherub Dream Records to bring you back to the fun days of split E.P.’s but instead let’s just make it 3 bands makes it a partyyy. - Swirving, Audiosyncrasies

the last match - the aislers set (San Francisco, 2000’s twee-pop)

Shout out to the recent Rocketship show at The Chapel that got me reminiscent of an era of music that I didn’t get to experience firsthand! In that same vein, the upcoming SF Bay Popfest got me excited for The Aislers Set and this classically catchy and twee-pop album released on Slumberland Records. - Swirving, Audiosyncrasies

No Need to Be Lonely - Gladie (Philly, altnerative/indie-rock)

This is an early AOTY contender for me and it gets the spotlight because it was engineered and mastered by local wizard Jack Shirley at Atomic Garden in Oakland. The messages of glimmering hope and optimism in wake of the bleak reality of the world ring especially true in this first half of the year. - Swirving, Audiosyncrasies

blue fire doom - Sloome (Modesto, alternative/dream-pop/shoe-gaze)

Very reminiscent of Sebadoh and Dino Jr era indie rock, Sloome features members from Welcome Strawberry and Paper Space. Also recorded at The Atomic Garden in Oakland and released on Cherub Dream Records . - Swirving, Audiosyncrasies

Forever - MARBLED EYE (Oakland, post-punk)

This E.P. isn’t out until May 22nd but throw the bois at Marbled Eye some love and check out the first single available now. - Swirving, Audiosyncrasies

Haggus - The Mincecore Manifesto (Oakland, mincecore)

The nastiest protest music you’ll hear this year (or ever). The DIY kings of crust punk/goregrind/pitch-shifted madness return with a filthy tribute to anyone fighting the billionaires and oligarchs. - DJ B-rated, The Sunday Screeches

Bliss Abyss - bliss abyss (Oakland, alt rock/shoegaze)

Feel-good-yet-angsty jams filled with earwormy melodies and all too relatable lyrics about the little triumphs and tribulations of life. - DJ B-rated, The Sunday Screeches

Belexum - Belexum (Oakland & other places, death fuckin’ metal)

Big meaty riffs spliced with dissonance and furious vocals. It’s death metal like it should be: bludgeoning, uncomfortable, and brutal. - DJ B-rated, The Sunday Screeches

The Wind-Ups - Confection (NorCal, sugar punk/power pop)

Punky rock’n’roll that’s guaranteed to give you a sugar high. Deliciously lo-fi with a cynical twist, Confection will make you cry on the dancefloor and bop your way to The Ice Cream Bar on Cole for an old-fashioned treat. - DJ B-rated, The Sunday Screeches

The Reds, Pinks, & Purples - Acknowledge Kindness (San Francisco, sad pop)

Is it possible to listen to TRP&P without crying? If so, I haven’t managed it. Glenn Donaldson delivers another masterpiece of soft melodies carrying nostalgic tides of bittersweet memories, life lessons, and emotional storytelling. - DJ B-rated, The Sunday Screeches

Heavy Metal Shrapnel - Heavy Metal Hairspray (San Jose, power metal)

High-octane anthems straight from the sleazy side of the 80s. Featuring the legendary Mark Boals on vocals, this side quest from Andrew Lee (Ripped to Shreds, Houkago Grind Time) is the perfect trip back to the future with an exhilarating mix of power metal, glam rock, and RIFFS. - DJ B-rated, The Sunday Screeches

Cel Genesis - Shallow Dream (Redux) (Oakland, digital hardcore/hyperpop)

Maniacal electronic alchemists Cel Genesis return with a re-imagining of their 2022 album. Just one track out and I’m already super excited to see how their chaotic sound is remixed. - DJ B-rated, The Sunday Screeches

Cindy - Another Country (San Francisco, lo-fi slowcore)

A gentle, blissful celebration of friendship and what’s possible with really talented friends, hazy memories, and unspoken bonds that shine when it matters most. - DJ B-rated, The Sunday Screeches

Theya - Vol. 1 (San Francisco, occult heavy metal)

Idk what to say about this except that it’s pure, groovy perfection. NWOBHM tangles with thrash, doom, psychedelia, and more for cosmically ordained perfection. Listen to my interview with the band in my show archives! - DJ B-rated, The Sunday Screeches
