BFF.fm has another exciting video premiere coming your way with “A Silver Wind,” the first single from Andrés Miguel Cervantes’ forthcoming album Songs For The Seance. Let's check it out:

Cervantes, a San Diego native who now calls the Bay Area home, is known for what he and producer Alicia Vanden Heuvel call “Western Noir," a sound evoking desert expanses and offering quiet reflection of haunted memories. With “A Silver Wind,” Cervantes takes you along on a solitary drive through the Mojave, where, amid the pandemic, he was inspired to write the song.

“I have a lot of childhood memories of driving into Mexico with my family, staring out the back seat windows of my dads Monte Carlo as we drove into the Sonoran desert, on our way to his hometown of Pueblo Yaqui. These desert drive memories still flicker in my mind like a cinema drive-in. There is a part of me that is still there, staring intensely out the backseat window, as far as I could see in hopes to discover something more than meets the eye… With “A Silver Wind,” I wanted to capture that feeling of reflection that one gets when driving through the vastness of the desert… it can make one feel insignificant, but vital, all in the same moment."

Recorded live on analog tape with only two microphones, “A Silver Wind” captures both the intimacy of Cervantes’ fingerpicking (oh, the squeaks of the strings!) and the vastness of the landscapes that inspire him. You could almost be convinced this was recorded around a campfire, each strum floating off into the desert air. The video, created by Jess Ledbetter using footage from the Prelinger Archives, mirrors this duality, offering a sense of both solitude and the boundless desert horizon that Cervantes describes as "a refuge and sanctuary for my soul."

"The loneliness, or the solitude, whichever seems to be present, is part of what this song explores. That we are with the moments that we experienced, and the dreams that may have never come to pass. There is something that calls me to the desert, there is a part of me that always resides there.”

“A Silver Wind” is the first single of what promises to be a spectral and stirring collection of songs. Featuring an absolute murderers row of collaborators, including Jacob Aranda (pedal steel, violin), Jessie Leigh Smith (harmonica, vocals), Raphi Gottesman (drums), Alicia Vanden Heuvel (bass, vocals, percussion), Hall McCann (lead guitar, vocals), Graham Norwood (guitar), Conor Riley (piano) and Noelle Fiore (vocals), Songs For The Seance takes you on a journey through soundscapes as cinematic as they are soulful. Expect to hear everything from spare acoustic ballads to full-band outlaw country numbers, all threaded together by Cervantes’ poetic lyricism and haunting guitar work.

Songs For The Seance is out on October 31 (spooky) on Speakeasy Studios SF.
