Opineismyname's latest EP that dropped December 2021, 21.12.21, has an aura of sensual tones and lyrical messages that can be translated into romantic relationships or just the broad spectrum of life itself.

I recently caught up with Opineismyname (Vernon Tre Brooks III) and that's what a lot of our conversation was centered around: life. Where life has taken the 26 year old Bay Area artist from a young boy raised in the church along with a mix of family musical influences to the present smooth and soulful singer. He spoke so openly about this inner battle of wanting to be better  than his father in the music realm, he found himself moving with spite instead of his own personal intention. He spoke words of honesty and forgiveness, how forgiveness is what prompted him to start creating music for himself.

Music has always been a part of who Vernon is. He told me stories of his youth, going to the mall with friends to perform songs by the Temptations to customers in the stores. He is a long time performer, dancer, rapper, and singer. He refers to himself as a “human jukebox”, using the sounds in his everyday life as inspiration.

21.12.21 was the first project where Opineismyname tested his singing skills, a test that I would have to say he totally passed. The twenty-seven minute EP has such sensual vibes and smooth tones for those late nights with your boo. There are hints of contrast in the project, with songs like “Demons”, which describes a soul sucking relationship. Opine describes this track as a track that lays down the insecurities that we hold from life and relationships that we forge with one another.

Some words of wisdom from the long time musical artist to the up-and-coming artists was this: “…Do one thing, do that one thing to perfection…nurture what you’re good at.” He also suggests to find the people that will intentionally support you. When you find your support system, feed them, support them in their endeavors too. He concludes by saying, “Stop worrying about who ain’t messing with you. Hone in on your craft, do your best, and don’t miss growth.”
