A Third Place

About A Third Place

Coined by sociology professor Ray Oldenburg in his 1989 book The Great Good Place, a third place is a neighborhood environment that encourages casual social interactions for some and solitude without loneliness for others. They are our parks, libraries, bookstores, cafes, game parlors, bars, music venues, and even our sidewalks. They are our community centers, whether formal or informal. These places are where the rough edges of city life meet, sanding down the friction of difference and sometimes even sparking inspiration or friendship.

Join Sasha (formerly Loose Canon Listening Club and Boy with Girl's Name Morning Mixtape) on the Internet's sidewalk every Sunday morning with open ears and an open mind to explore community-focused music, stories, and ideas.
