American Fiction Director Cord Jefferson

Do yourself a favor and watch American Fiction! Cord Jefferson's directorial debut hilariously follows a frustrated novelist (Jeffrey Wright) who is tired of the industry profiting from "Black" entertainment that relies on offensive tropes- yet somehow finds himself in the middle of that hypocrisy.

We sat down with Cord to discuss Erasure, the book that the film is based on, and the connection he felt that prompted him to write the script. Then he shares how he combines comedy with drama, the score that ties it all together (thanks to composer Laura Karpman), and how strong women in his life helped him battle toxic masculinity. And then we cap it all off by convincing him to move to the Bay Area!
