Hello, this is Kristin from The Infinite Kaleidoscope and I’m glad to be here with you. One of the problems when you are obsessed with music is that there is always something new to discover.

Here are five favorites from The Infinite Kaleidoscope 2022:

Healing Potpourri, “Paradise” , Run For Cover Records

The project of local musician Simi Sohota, produced by local music producer Jason Kick, on Run For Cover Records. You can listen to the whole album from start to finish, one of my personal favorites is Track 7, “Terry” which I’m assuming is Simi’s homage to electronic wizard Terry Riley.

SRSQ, “Ever Crashing”, Dais Records

Former Bay Area artist and now Texan, SRSQ, aka Kennedy Ashlyn. Kennedy has publicly chronicled her struggles with depression and on this record really sets herself free. I have been a fan of Kennedy’s music since her band Them Are Us Too, one of my favorite tracks from the album is, “Saved For Summer” the song lifts you up and makes you want to drive around the coast with the windows rolled down.

Molly Lewis, “Mirage”, "Jagjaguwar"

When you go to Molly Lewis’s website it says, “Molly Lewis Whistler” which is what she does and she’s really good at it. I love this whole album, it’s peaceful and is a modern take on exotica music. The perfect record to spin while drifting away on the couch with your cocktail of choice.

A favorite track is “Miracle Fruit” and I love the campy video that accompanies it.

Brijean, “Angelo”, Ghostly International

LA duo and their latest album, “Angelo” which I read is an homage to their car of the same name. This whole album is a great one to put on while driving, cleaning the house or just relaxing. The videos are really great too, my favorite being, “Take A Trip” which is like a psychedelic journey seen through the eyes of Brijean.

Castlebeat, “Half Life”, Spirit Goth Records

Castlebeat is the musical project of Spirit Goth Records founder Josh Hwang. My friend Caitlin describes Castlebeat as the “yacht rock” of synthpop. It’s a good record to have on in the background, or the foreground if you want to take a ride through drippy synth sounds. I liked this album so much, I bought it on CD, yes they still make those and often spin it in my car. The whole album is good, one of my favorite tracks is, “Looking For Something”

I hope everyone has a positive transition into our next go round. Happy discovering, happy listening and cheers to you!
