This week, we're joined by dear friend and long-serving BFF.fm DJ Karina from Hello Sunshine. She's brought a selection of music that she's played on her show over the years, but specifically ones that inspire her love of drums and percussion. She highlights a number of different perspectives on the value of drums in music, it's really great. We also chat a bit about how she's responsible for the chain of events that brought me to the station five years ago.
This week we feature an older record, one of my favourites: The wonderful Falling Off the Lavender Bridge by Lightspeed Champion. Released a little over ten years ago, and the foundation of one of my favourite SXSW performances that year, Dev Hynes second major project — and precursor to his more famous identity as Blood Orange — is a quirky, folky work, with great melodies, dark and witty lyrics, and beautiful harmonies with Emmy The Great. We also enjoy digging into some of his “antifolk” scene collaborations with Florence of Florence + The Machine, and his talent for well crafted cover versions.
